STEP 1: YOU
What you need to know
Our Young Driver education course is designed for young drivers who are about to sit their restricted licenses, or who already have a restricted or full licence. Parents and caregivers are welcome to attend. Students must bring their own warranted and registered vehicle.
The session covers:
- emergency braking (off-road)
- reversing (off-road)
- parallel parking
- one on one tuition (on-road)
- tyre and basic car maintenance
- workshops - drink driving, distraction, intersections, speed management and peer pressure.
This training is a joint initiative from Hamilton City Council, Waikato District Council and Waipā District Council and facilitated by our Road Safety Coordinators.
The practical components of this course are facilitated by Holden Driver Training.
How much does it cost?
$50
The training itself is mostly subsidised by our Councils but there is a small cost which also allows us to provide lunch for trainees.

What happens next
We run these courses a few time during the year and spots are limited.
We'll pass your registration onto our partner for these courses (Holden Driver Training) who will be in touch to confirm a booking and organise payment.
