Road users are encouraged to use alternate routes where possible traffic management may be in place to make sure road users, including people on bikes and pedestrians, can navigate these areas safely.

Major roadwork projects
Avalon Drive
From 24 March 2026, we will be resurfacing and rebuilding sections on Avalon Drive. This work will be completed in stages. See the latest update below.
Current stage and timeframe
Stage 1 (Rotokauri roundabout to Dominion Road roundabout). This stage is on track to start on 24 March 2026.
Road closure
Avalon Drive from Rotokauri roundabout to Dominion Road roundabout will be closed for 7 nights (7pm-6am) from 24 March. The road will be open during the day.

Normandy Avenue (SH3)
From 16 March 2026 we will be carrying out wastewater renewals at the roundabout of Normandy Avenue (SH3) and Ohaupo Road (SH1c). This work will not close the road but there may be shoulder and lane closures, and an increase in traffic.
Works are expected to end in May 2026. The first two weeks will be nightworks only, as we carry out enabling works. The following work will be day work only to renew the pipes. The most disruptive works aims to be done over the school holidays with crews continuing to work over Easter.

Seddon Road (from the Norton Road roundabout to Somerset Street) will be closed Tuesday 17 March, from 11.30am – 11.30pm for an international cricket game.
Lake Domain Drive– road closure
Lake Domain Drive (from Killarney Road to Innes Common carpark) will be closed from Saturday 21 March to Thursday 26 March, from 5am – 10am for Balloons Over Waikato.

Ohaupo Road and Normandy Avenue intersection – delays
Traffic delays through the Ohaupo Road and Normandy Avenue intersection are expected from Monday 16 March to Wednesday 18 May for a wastewater renewal.
Massey Street – road closure
Massey Street (from Greenwood Street to Rifle Range Road) will be closed Tuesday 17 March and Wednesday 18 March, from 8pm – 5am for resurfacing.
Te Rapa Road and Garnett Avenue intersection – road closure and delays
Garnett Avenue (from Te Rapa Road to Minogue Drive) will be closed Monday 23 March to Friday 3 April, from 7.30pm – 5am for a wastewater renewal.
Traffic delays and some directions through the Te Rapa Road and Garnett Avenue intersection will be closed until mid-March from 7pm – 6am, for a watermain upgrade.
Albert Street – lane closure
Entry to Albert Street from Nixon Street will be closed from Monday 16 February to Friday 27 March from 7am – 6pm for a footpath renewal.
Ongoing works/delays
Grey Street - lane closure
The northbound lane of Grey Street (from Anzac Parade to Te Aroha Street) remains closed at various times until June from 8pm – 5am, for a watermain upgrade.
Killarney Road – road closure
Killarney Road (from Greenwood Street to Massey Street) remains closed until Monday 16 March from 7pm – 6am, with one lane open from 6am – 7pm, for road resealing.
Morrinsville Road, Silverdale Road and Matangi Road – road closures
Morrinsville Road (from Cambridge Road to Ruakura Road), Silverdale Road (from Masters Avenue to Morrinsville Road) and Matangi Road (from Woodside Road to Morrinsville Road) remains closed 24/7 until the end of May for a roundabout installation. Businesses are still open as per their operating hours.
Victoria Street - lane closure
The eastbound lane of Victoria Street (from Te Rapa Road to the Fairfield Bridge) will be closed from 6am – 7pm, with northbound traffic maintained at all times, and full road closure will be in place from 7pm – 6am until Thursday 26 March for road repairs.
