Ongoing works

Gower Park: field 1

Field 1 is closed for renovations. The works are expected to be completed in late March. 

Korikori Park: field 1  

Field 1 is closed for renovations. The works are expected to be completed in late March.

Porritt Stadium: field 1  

Field 1 is closed for renovations. Works are expected to be completed in late March.

Upcoming works

Ashurst: field 1 

Field 1 will be closed for renovations from Friday 7 March. Works are expected to be completed in late May. 

Mahoe: diamond A

Diamond A will be closed for repairs from Monday 14 April to Wednesday 16 April.

Keen to book a sports field?

Sports fields are great places to bring your whaanau, friends or teammates. Whether it's for school groups, training sessions, or just a casual match, you can book a sports field at an affordable rate. 

Check out what sports fields could suit you this summer by following the simple steps below: 

  1. head to the Hamilton City Council website hamilton.govt.nz 

  2. search 'finding and booking a sports park' 

  3. browse the different sports parks and select which sports park you are interested in

  4. check the park facilities and who it is best suited for 

  5. click on the booking enquiry tab to either apply for an events permit or to book a sports park

  6. once the request has been submitted our booking coordinator will confirm the park’s availability.

Seen something needing reporting? 

We want to ensure that our sports parks and buildings are looked after for everyone. To help, we have a new Parks Maintenance form and other easy ways to report an issue to Council.

  • Use the new Parks Maintenance form (e.g building or grounds) on the Hamilton City Council website to report maintenance issues. This easy-to-use form allows you to specify the issue, its location, and whether it is a health and safety concern. Once submitted, it goes directly to Customer Services.  
  • Visit Report a problem (e.g parking, flooding) on the Hamilton City Council website. Once submitted, it goes directly to Customer Services. 
  • Download the Antenno App for free from the App Store or Google Play to report issues directly from your mobile. 
  • Call the friendly Customer Services team on 07 838 6699 or send an email to info@hcc.govt.nz

A heads-up on re-registration for incorporated societies

All incorporated societies need to re-register under the Incorporated Societies Act by April 2026. If you haven't started making the necessary changes to your constitution yet, now's the time to get cracking to meet the deadline.

Some of the great things happening in community and sports facilities across the city

Waikato Rugby season kicks off in Hamilton 

Get ready for an exciting rugby season in Hamilton. Club rugby kicks off on Saturday 5 April, with a strong lineup of teams ready to compete across the senior rugby landscape. Secondary School and Junior Rugby will begin in early May, promising another great season for students and young players.

 

Hamilton is set to host the All Blacks v France in one of the three mid-year Tests. This will be the first All Blacks Test in the Waikato since they hosted Argentina in 2022. Following this, the Bunnings NPC side will start their 2025 campaign in early August, while the Farah Palmer Cup Waitomo Group Waikato Women will be defending their 2024 title.

 

It's not too late to get involved in rugby for 2025. Whether you're new to the game, interested in playing, coaching, managing, or even refereeing, there's a place for everyone. Contact Waikato Rugby at 07 839 5675 or reach out to your local sports club or school for more information on how to get involved.

The Settlement Centre host a range of activities including English language classes, community connector services, budget advice, interpreting and translation services, community driving school, youth employment support, and venue hire.

Come along to HMS Trust's community day 

Get ready for a fun-filled day at Claudelands Park on Wednesday 16 April from 11am to 2pm.

 

This free annual event, held during the April school holidays, is your chance to connect with the community and discover local services.  

 

What's in store: 

  • Meet the heroes – chat with Fire and Emergency NZ, NZ Police, St John, Here To Help U, Ruben the Road Safety Bear, Busit, Raglan Surf Lifesaving Club with their IRB, and more. 
  • Fun activities - enjoy a free sausage sizzle, exciting giveaways, and interactive displays showcasing essential services in our region.

Waikato Equitherapy Incorporated are transforming lives

Waikato Equitherapy is a leased group helping provide a lifeline for children and youth with special needs. Located in Newstead, the incredible organisation offers horse riding therapy and interaction.

 

The centre operates five days a week, offering a weekly program for just $120 per term. With 10 specially trained ponies, two paid staff and a dedicated team of volunteers, children can attend with their school, caregiver, or parent.

 

Initially, some children may need the support of a leader and two side walkers to ride safely, but over time, they often learn to ride more independently.

 

The whaanau at Waikato Equitherapy offers invaluable therapy and volunteering options. If you would like to enroll your child, learn more about our holiday programs, or volunteer, please contact Nickie on 021 378 030 or email admin@waikatoequi.co.nz. You can also contact the team via the

A community of adventure and fun - Chartwell Scout Group

The Chartwell Scout Group has been a cornerstone of the Hamilton community. Proudly participating in community events and gully restoration efforts across the city.  

 

If your kids love fun, adventure and making new friends – this is the place for them. The team at the Chartwell Scout Group cater to a variety of age groups. 

 

  • Keas (5-8 years): Mondays at 5pm. Expect lots of fun, games, and adventures. 
  • Cubs (8-10 years): Tuesdays at 6.30pm. Dive into skills-based activities like outdoor adventures, rope work, water safety, cooking, camping, and games. 
  • Scouts (11-14 years): Wednesdays at 6.30pm. Enjoy activities from tramping and camping to photography and pioneering, including attending local and overseas Jamborees. 
  • Venturers (14+ years): Wednesdays at 7pm. Choose your own activities, from tramping, climbing, kayaking, and camping to social events like quiz nights and formal balls. 

 

Membership fees are $120 per term per youth member. Discounted fees are available for families that contribute by becoming leaders or taking on committee roles.
