Notice of Requirement – Alteration to Ruakiwi Road Reservoir Designation

The Notice of Requirement (NOR) seeks to alter the existing designation A67 Water Reservoir (Ruakiwi Road) to enable the construction, operation, and maintenance of two reservoirs, a valve chamber, pipelines, and supporting infrastructure to supply water to the central city and the surrounding areas.

The NOR was publicly notified on 23 September 2025 and the submission period closed on 22 October 2025. Six submissions were received.

In addition, Council is seeking feedback on a proposal to change the reserve classification for the proposed designated part of Lake Domain Reserve from a Recreation Reserve to a Local Purpose Reserve (Water Infrastructure) to better reflect its intended future use. This is a process under the Reserves Act 1977.

Public consultation also ran from 23 September - 22 October 2025.

Hearings held 23 February 2026. Decision notified 20 March 2026.
