Understand what a network access request is

Access to Council's three waters network for investigation purposes only - typically granted to support design, preliminary design, planning, or feasibility studies - refers to a non-intrusive, temporary, and limited form of access to water infrastructure assets. Here's a breakdown of what this usually entails.

This type of access is granted to allow professionals (for example, engineers, planners, surveyors) and approved contractors to:

  • gather data on existing infrastructure (pipe locations, sizes, materials, flow rates)
  • assess constraints and opportunities for future development or upgrades
  • support modelling and hydraulic analysis
  • inform design decisions without performing any physical works or modifications

Activities not permitted included:

  • Physical connection to the network (for example, tapping into pipes)
  • alteration or removal of infrastructure
  • construction or excavation works
  • any activity that could disrupt services or compromise the asset.
