Project summary

What we're doing

We're installing permanent bike parking in schools to give students, staff and visitors more parking options.

This project includes:

  • new stainless steel bike racks

The schools to receive bike parking include Frankton School, St. Columba's Catholic School, Aberdeen School, and Rototuna Junior and Senior High Schools.

Why we're doing it

Council’s vision for our transport network is that more people choose to travel on foot, by bus, or using micro-mobility devices such as bikes and scooters.

This project is 100% funded by Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency’s Transport Choices programme. It will help create a connected network across the city, supporting Council’s move to a low emissions transport system in response to climate change.

The schools to receive bike parking are ones that will directly benefit from projects we intend to deliver through Transport Choices. Read more about the programme here.

This project will

  • Increase bike parking options

  • Provide safe areas for end-of-journey stops

  • Encourage more kids to bike and scooter to school
