This project will
Provide safer crossings for pedestrians and people on bikes
Improve the bike network connectivity
Increase visibility at a busy crossing
We’re installing new pedestrian/bike level crossings at the Claudelands East intersection, and at Brooklyn Road/Claudelands Road (east end).
The upgrades include:
A Level Crossing Safety Impact Assessment (LCSIA) recommended automatic pedestrian/bike gates at the rail crossings, as we are expecting an increase in the number of people walking and biking in the coming years.
We are also expecting increased future use of the rail line prompted by development in the city such as the Ruakura inland port.
September 2023Public feedback has closed, and the project has moved to the design phase.
May 2024With final design and construction approval from Waka Kotahi, we expect work to begin in May 2024.
June 2024Our goal is to complete the project mid-2024. All projects in the Transport Choices programme will be completed by June 2024.
