We are designing improvements along Hall Street and Mill Street, a key route linking the east of the Waikato River with the railway overbridge to the west of the central city. It will include separated bike lanes and safer intersections along the length of the road between Victoria Street and Kent Street. Community facilities along the route include K'aute Pasifika, FMG Stadium Waikato and Whitiora School.
The upgrades include:
Planning for the street improvements now will allow Council to identify key locations and be prepared to advance projects when funding becomes available.
This will result in a future road corridor that will provide safe and reliable access for people using bikes to travel between several activity centres.
This project also integrates with the wider Waikato biking network, to connect people to the Te Awa River Ride.
It is funded by Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency's Transport Choices programme and will help create a connected network across the city, supporting Council's move to a low emissions transport system in response to climate change.
