Project Summary

What we're doing

We’re upgrading the intersection of Killarney Road and Queens Avenue to create a more welcoming space for people walking and biking. The upgrades include:

  • Four paired raised zebra crossings around the roundabout to help pedestrians and people on bikes cross the street.
  • Path widening to allow additional space for pedestrians and people on bikes.
  • Protected bike lanes to the intersection on Killarney Road.

Why we're doing it

This project will improve biking and pedestrian safety, and connectivity to the Western Rail Trail.

Killarney Road is a high priority route in Hamilton’s citywide bike network plan. It links Dinsdale and Frankton to Innes Common, the Western Rail Trail and the central city. It is expected to become a highly used route for people biking to work and school, or to destinations in and around Innes Common for leisure.

This project will

  • Improve biking and pedestrian safety

  • Ensure connectivity to the Western Rail Trail

  • Allow for future growth in city-wide bike network
