Project summary

What we're doing

We’re undertaking improvement works at the Lake Domain Drive/Killarney Road intersection.

The works will include:

  • Changing the intersection layout to a T-intersection to slow vehicles down and prioritise traffic travelling straight along Lake Domain Drive.
  • Installing raised pedestrian and bike crossings on both Killarney Road and Lake Domain Drive to help safely connect people to Lake Rotoroa.

Work will usually take place between 7.30am–6pm, Monday to Friday, weather dependent. Work began on 24 October 2023 and is expected to take about 15 weeks to complete.

Why we're doing it

This intersection was identified for safety improvements as part of the Waka Kotahi – Road to Zero programme.

Council is focussed on providing a transport network that helps connect people and places in safe, accessible, and smart ways. Every improvement we make on our roads helps us towards our ‘Vision Zero’ philosophy for road safety, meaning we aim to achieve zero deaths and serious injuries on our city’s roads. This philosophy is one of the key outcomes in our transport strategy Access Hamilton – Ara Kootuitui Kirikiriroa (see hamilton.govt.nz/access-hamilton for more information).

This project will

  • Prioritise traffic travelling straight along Lake Domain Drive
