Project summary

What we’re doing

We are making improvements to the pedestrian crossings at the intersection of Bisley Road and Wairere Drive. To provide a smooth connection to the shared path along Wairere Drive, we will be upgrading the existing crossings to raised platforms.

Construction will commence on Monday 20 May and is expected to take six weeks to complete, weather dependent. During the works the Bisley Road exit will be reduced to a single lane at times.

Most of the construction will occur between Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm. Because a full closure will be required to complete the works on the left slip lane into Bisley Road, this part of the upgrade will be carried out at night between 7pm and 6am.

Why we’re doing it

Council has a focus to provide a transport network that helps connect people and places in safe, accessible, and smart ways. We have adopted ‘Vision Zero’ as a philosophy for road safety, meaning we aim to achieve zero deaths and serious injuries on our city’s roads. This philosophy is one of the key outcomes in our transport strategy Access Hamilton – Ara Kootuitui Kirikiriroa

These improvements are part of our Transport Improvement Works Programme. These initiatives place human wellbeing at the heart of our road transport planning and operations.

  • Provide a safer place to cross the street

  • Improve connectivity for pedestrians

  • Help us towards our Vision Zero goal for road safety
