Hamilton City Council has been working with Waikato District Council on a proposal to bring the area known as R2 (between Gordonton Road and the Waikato Expressway) into Hamilton’s boundary.
This proposal is now on hold until there is more certainty about the Government’s direction for local government reform, including its recent “Head Start” announcement.
Both Hamilton City Council and Waikato District Council are working on proposals to join up with neighbouring authorities, as directed by the Government’s proposed reform.
What was proposed
The proposal involved changing part of the boundary between Hamilton City and Waikato District to include the R2 area within Hamilton.
This work aligns with existing strategic agreements between both councils and a shared approach to planning for long-term growth.
