Please share any comments you have about why you chose to support/oppose the different options.
As both a student at HBHS and a resident of the surrounding area, I can confidently say that option 1 provides the best safety upgrades to the benefit both stakeholders out of the options that are provided. Putting in a new crossing is a non negotiable to ensure the safety of students around after school time. However, a new crossing will not fix all of the problems. You still put cyclists at risk as parents park both legally and illegally on the side of the road, blocking bike lanes and either pushing bikes fully on the road into the flow of traffic, or pushing them onto the path which endangers pedestrians. This is why narrowing the road on both sides is also a non negotiable. However, option 1 still doesn’t fully address the issue of safety of cyclists and pedestrians school finish time. By narrow the road and removing the cycle lanes, there must be a solid alternative for cyclists. A shared cycle and pedestrian facilities does not provide a viable alternative, as it is dangerous both for cyclists and pedestrians. Bikes are forced off of the road and into densely crowded spaces. I think the council has not kept into consideration the sheer magnitude of density around the targeted areas due to the size of both schools. Option 1 has enough space where it is possible to create separate bike and pedestrian lanes, that would both help direct the flow of both parties, and give teachers on duty the authority to redirect students who are disregarding the separated facilities.
How important or unimportant was retaining parking spaces on Peachgrove Road when deciding your support/opposition to each of the options?
Extremely unimportant
Please share any comments you have about potential reductions to the number of parking spots on Peachgrove Road.
Parking spaces must be removed in order to ensure safety of students. This reduces blind spots which cause near misses between cyclists and cars, as well as reducing bottlenecks being creating along the road. However, if the parks are removed, alternatives must be thought through thoroughly.
For Option 1: Do you support adding raised pedestrian and cycling crossings on nearby streets at an additional $600,000, bringing the total project cost to $5.4m?
No
Please provide any additional comments you may have about raised pedestrian and cycle crossings for Option 1.
The islands and crossings that are on these streets are adequate. Although making them official pedestrian crossing maybe worth while, completely raising the crossings seems unnecessary, especially when the money could be used elsewhere on the road. However, a raised crossing or island would be worth while to consider at the Frances St to Peachgrove Rd intersection, as this often gets very busy and is very wide when crossing.
For Option 2: Do you support adding raised pedestrian and cycling crossings on nearby streets at an additional $300,000, bringing the total project cost to $4.3m?
Don't know/unsure
Please provide any additional comments you may have about raised pedestrian and cycle crossings for Option 2.
Adding raised pedestrian crossings will not affect the issues and safety concerns this option does not address.
For Option 3: Do you support adding a raised pedestrian and cycling crossing on Wilson St at an additional $150,000, bringing the total project cost to $1.2m?
Don't know/unsure
Please provide any additional comments you may have about a raised pedestrian and cycle crossing for Option 3.
Adding raised pedestrian crossings will not affect the issues and safety concerns this option does not address.
