Please share any comments you have about why you chose to support/oppose the different options.
While acknowledging the importance of keeping tauira safe as they travel to school, poor driver behaviour outside all Hamilton schools is a common occurrence and I suspect such behaviour will to continue outside HBHS and Peachgrove Intermediate despite these proposed changes. Enforcement measures might be the only effective way to target such driver behaviour which I would encourage. Currently, some parents choose to stop on yellow lines or double park to drop off students near the schools despite there being parking areas along Peachgrove Road. If there are no spaces to drop off passengers along most or all of this stretch of road (as per options 1 and 2), this risks some parents simply stopping in lane to let passengers out which is dangerous. And forcing vehicles onto the side streets to drop off passengers will lead to heavy congestion due to cars having to turn off and then back into the main flow of traffic along Peachgrove Road, as well as impacting those side streets. As an example, Scott Ave is already very busy at school pick up time and forcing more traffic down this road might be diabolical. The additional signalled crossing is a good idea as many HBHS students make poor decisions weaving through traffic. The schools could take stricter measures to address such behaviour from its students.
How important or unimportant was retaining parking spaces on Peachgrove Road when deciding your support/opposition to each of the options?
Extremely important
Please share any comments you have about potential reductions to the number of parking spots on Peachgrove Road.
In addition to my comments above which relates primarily to school drop off and pick up times, the schools both have limited parking comparative to the size of their school communities. Removing or reducing the parking spots will impact parents and visitors who are unable to park in the school grounds during school events such as sports games, as well as those students who are driving to school, and the school neighbours.
This year I have dropped my sons to HBHS in the morning and stop in a legal park outside the school along Peachgrove Road. This is fairly stress-free as most parents are considerate drivers who park responsibly and move on quickly. Having to do drop offs elsewhere further from the school would be hoha for both the students and the driver. I personally would not like having to pull into a side street to drop off my children and then have to loop around and cross the flow of traffic to get back onto Peachgrove Road to travel to mahi.
