Please share any comments you have about why you chose to support/oppose the different options.
Option 1 is by far the best choice. It's the only option that looks at the issue in the round and takes the full opportunity to upgrade this important area. It provides for safe and efficient public transport and active transport. That's what we need in a cost-of-living crisis. It also means more efficient and safer use of our streets. High school students in particular should be encouraged to be independent and to get themselves to school by walking, cycling and bus wherever possible, and option one helps to do this. Option 1 will help Council to work towards Vision Zero, as it prioritises safety.
It is important that in addition to the enforcement cameras, there is a campaign using parking wardens to enforce parking restrictions on the neighbouring streets on an on-going basis. There is already a pattern of dangerous parking on these side streets connected with school drop offs.
Option one is the highest capital cost option, but it encourages public and active transport, which have much lower operating costs than private vehicles. Raised crossings are known to be safer so it's a no-brainer to put them here where there are two schools.
Options 2, 3 and 4 are better than doing nothing, but they fall well short of what is possible. The status quo is unjustifiable.
How important or unimportant was retaining parking spaces on Peachgrove Road when deciding your support/opposition to each of the options?
Extremely unimportant
Please share any comments you have about potential reductions to the number of parking spots on Peachgrove Road.
Bus users, cyclists and pedestrians are much bigger users of this road, especially for access to the two schools, than vehicles dropping students off and all-day student parking. Students should be enabled to get to school safely by bike, bus and on foot. That has to be a higher priority than vehicle parking for school drop offs and student parking, which is an incredibly inefficient use of the the road corridor in a busy location like this one.
