Proposed 2026/27 Fees and Charges

I went to a concert at the BNZ theater and parked in Alexander street. I paid about $7 to park and consider this part of the night out. I seldom come int the central city since retiring and parking is not a factor really.

In part, but I have suggestions

Firstly recognise the Australian equivalent of Gold Card. In Queensland I was asked if I had a Nz Gold card and recieved a discount. The $27.50 seems a lot all at once, perhaps 25 might be better. I see the linkage with the Zoo price but the Gardens gets larger numbers and greater income.
I would like to see more direct advertising to get people to the Gardens, a lot of visitors come because of word of mouth. The city is buzzing and packages could be advertised. For example this Saturday the Chiefs rugby and the gardens as part of a weekend in Hamilton.
There is so much that could be done as tourist in particular are starting to stay in the city and use it as a base. Social media doesnt hit all age cohorts.
Please don’t start charging for the wheel chairs, this will effect locals as well and will not justify the extra staffing required, especially during the summer peak. Some staff have suggested that.

I feel a little uneasy about rate payers subsidising the profit for developers. Howver there needs to balance so as not to discourage growth.
