Thinking about potential mergers with other councils, what, if any, opportunities do you see?
Potential economies of scale, and ability to implement a wider more strategic approach.
Thinking about potential mergers with other councils, what, if any, concerns do you have?
I would have serious concerns, mainly becuase where other places have done this, it has made it more difficult to address the needs of the communities they look after. The communites where people feel connected and valued are typically where the communities are small and local, and relevant to the area. If one council tries to cover an extremely diverse (e.g. rual and urban) area, it's harder to tailor to the different communities and also harder to just get things done. I believe HCC should focus on quality of the community they oversee.
