| Thinking about potential mergers with other councils, what, if any, opportunities do you see? |
Opportunity to merge Waikato Regional Council, with HCC and other councils. Occupy one building, either Anglesea Street or Ward Street. Other building is sold - funds to repay debt or partner with a developer to convert to apartments and sell off/rent to create income stream, not for new projects but to pay down debt. Cost benefit analysis needed on all options.
Opportunity to identify workforce needed for the future/succession planning. Audit of current workforce, identification of gaps and overlaps. First step is to back to basics and determine core business, deliverables and from there design a workforce to achieve these. Potential savings, rationalise IT systems, staffing, HR function, management, and other areas - one Mayor and Council, potential cost savings in procurement. |
| Thinking about potential mergers with other councils, what, if any, concerns do you have? |
Concern that it is not 1 + 1+ 1 etc. ie: not adding all together.
- it is a complete redo - a new entity. Concerned that some councillors will still be in spend/spend mode. We cannot continue to accumulate debt. any savings from amalgamation must go to debt repayment and not to some new pet project, and please NO more playgounds...we have enough. Concerned that the hard decisions will not be made (re workforce) and that self-interest/loudest voices will prevail. Do it once and do it properly. |
| Are you giving feedback on behalf of an organisation? |
