I am opposed to any amalgamation of Councils.
The Auckland Super City has seen rates increase instead of decrease as was stated they would. There is no evidence that larger councils are more efficient than smaller ones. Why the speed?? Three months is not enough. Local decision making is being absorbed into a national system. The national system will sit on foreign corporate infrastructure. That infrastructure has a legal obligation to American law enforcement and intelligence agencies that supersede their responsibility to you. Elected is being replaced by appointment. Fewer councils means fewer decision points that can resist. This is amalgamation by stealth. Local decisions about my street, water, rubbish - whatever - layer by layer, reform by reform, so called efficiency - but these decisions are made by someone somewhere I cannot reach. Someone I don't know or elect, under a law that is not mine and on a server I cannot control. A single national planning database is being built which will hold every flood zone, hazard map, every land use decision, every resource consent across every part of NZ and it will be built to suit not you but who is in control. Under signed agreements on platforms and servers accessible under the U.S. CLOUD Act - American Authorities - without a NZ court order and without notifying you/me. Are submissions valid? Have decisions already been made? This is something that the average NZer would never agree to. No amalgamation is needed and Chris Bishop needs to be transparent as to why the hurry. |
