The Community Committee: 

  • provides governance for recreational and community facilities, amenities, and events 
  • facilitates community and stakeholder involvement in discussions about community infrastructure, safety and wellbeing 
  • ensures our civil defence and emergency management performance is to the highest standard
  • manages Council’s funding priorities for community grants
  • approves applications for Council projects suitable for external funding
  • approves public art proposals
  • provides input for Council’s events sponsorship fund
  • has oversight of more than 20 bylaws and policies, including those relating to animal control, public places, alcohol, road naming, city honours, smokefree environments and gambling.​
