The City Resilience Committee today considered a range of items aimed at supporting Hamilton communities and ensuring Council resources are used effectively.
Key items included decisions on community facility leases as part of an Expression of Interest (EOI) process, a review of the External Funding Policy, and proposed changes to the Trading in Public Places Policy and Bylaw.
The committee made decisions relating to four Council-owned community facilities that were part of an EOI process undertaken in early 2026. The facilities were Celebrating Age Centre, Te Rapa Sportsdrome, Pembroke Park Clubhouse, and Hockin House. The process provided an opportunity to consider future use of the facilities, opportunities for shared use, and how they can best meet current and future community needs.
City Resilience Committee Chair Cr Emma Pike said community facilities play an important role in supporting local communities.
"These facilities are essential to bringing people together and supporting a wide range of community activities," said Cr Pike.
"The decisions made today help ensure those facilities continue to meet community needs and deliver value for Hamilton residents."
The City Resilience Committee also recommended Council adopt an updated External Funding Policy. The revised Policy will help ensure a consistent and transparent approach to external funding, supporting investment in priority projects that deliver positive outcomes for Hamilton communities.
Councillors also considered feedback on proposed changes to the Trading in Public Places Policy and Bylaw. The proposed changes are intended to ensure the Policy and Bylaw remain practical, fit for purpose, and responsive to the needs of businesses, traders, and the community.
