While it’s a well-deserved holiday for many this Labour Day, your bins continue working for you with no change to Hamilton City Council’s kerbside collections.
Please make sure to have your bins out by 7am on your regular collection day so its picked up as scheduled.
Labour weekend is also an excellent opportunity to focus on sustainability while you’re cleaning up around the house said Council’s acting Resource Recovery Unit Director Trent Fowles.
“If you’re tackling any home projects, remember to think about reusing and recycling. Instead of throwing things away, consider repurposing or donating your unwanted items to extend their life and reduce waste to landfill. Small changes, like upcycling old furniture or giving clothes away, can make a big difference.”
Facilities in Hamilton will be open for those looking to reuse, recycle, or dispose of unwanted goods on Monday 28 October at these times:
Lincoln Street Resource Recovery Centre: 9am – 4pm
Lincoln Street Habitat for Humanity ReUse Store: 9am – 4pm
Hamilton Organic Centre: 8am – 5pm
Make sure you’re using recycling right
Only use your yellow bin for clean plastics labelled 1, 2 and 5, paper, cardboard, rinsed cans, and tins. This helps ensure what is recyclable can get recycled, instead of sending it to landfill because it’s contaminated by other dirty recyclables and rubbish.
Not sure what items can be recycled? Visit the bin sorter tool on our Fight the Landfill website. But the best rule is, if in doubt, keep it out.
