Hamilton dog owners can fetch discounted dog registrations and microchipping throughout March 2026, as part of an annual initiative supporting responsible dog ownership.
From 1 – 31 March, Hamilton dog owners registering their dogs for the first time can get these discounted rates:
- $40 for first‑time dog registration and microchipping (normally $138)
- $27.50 for first‑time registration only (normally $110)
- $12.50 for microchipping only (normally $28)
Hamilton City Council Safety and Resilience Director Kelvin Powell said the discounts aim to help owners meet their legal responsibilities and do the right thing for their dogs.
"Registering a dog is a legal requirement, but it’s also an important thing to do to keep your pet safe. If a dog is registered and microchipped, it helps our Animal Education and Control team to quickly and safely reunite them with their owners should they become lost,” he said.
“By offering this discount throughout March, we aim to make the process easier and more affordable for owners who are needing to register their dogs for the first time.”
To redeem these discounts, Hamilton dog owners must visit the Animal Education and Control Centre at 217 Ellis Street, Frankton with their dog, ID and proof of address. No appointment is needed. The centre is open Monday to Sunday, 12.30pm - 4.30pm.
The discount is not available online.
Dog registrations must be renewed by Tuesday 30 June 2026. For more information about dog registrations, visit hamilton.govt.nz/dogs
