Time is running out for aspiring Council candidates, with only days left to submit paperwork.
Nominations for the Hamilton City Council election close at midday on Friday 1 August.
Candidates can submit their nomination online or in person at Council’s Municipal Building at 260 Anglesea Street.
And Council Chief Executive Lance Vervoort has a message for those still considering a run for Council.
“I would encourage anyone thinking of standing to be bold,” Vervoort said.
“If you have the vision and passion to help shape Hamilton’s future, then now is the time to step forward and stand for Council. I also urge candidates not to delay in getting their nomination in.
“We don’t want anyone to miss out simply because they ran out of time.”
To stand as a Councillor, candidates must be:
- a New Zealand citizen (by birth or naturalisation ceremony); and
- enrolled as a parliamentary elector (anywhere in New Zealand); and
- nominated by two electors whose names appear on the electoral roll for the ward in which they are standing as a Councillor.
Those wanting to stand for the Hamilton mayoralty must be a New Zealand citizen and be enrolled as a parliamentary elector. They also need to be nominated by two electors on Hamilton City Council’s three electoral rolls (east, west and/or Maaori ward).
