Waterworld will open their newly updated recovery area at midday on Monday 20 April, marking the final milestone in the facility’s multistage renewal project.
While Waterworld has remained open throughout the works, the recovery area including the steam room, sauna, spa, and a new cold plunge pool, has been temporarily closed.
This work was part of a project to bring the facility up to modern standards and address fire damage to the sauna and steam room in 2022.
The project also includes repurposing the former circuit training room into a dedicated Reformer Pilates Studio, adding more variety for the community at Waterworld.
Hamilton City Council’s Customer and Community Unit Director Rebecca Whitehead said it’s exciting to reopen these much-loved facilities.
“We know how much our customers have missed these spaces, especially people recovering from an injury, working through mobility challenges, and looking for a way to unwind after a swim or gym session.
“Bringing the recovery zone back with safer, more modern features means Waterworld is again a one-stop recovery, swim and fitness spot where everyone is welcome.”
“We have around 400,000 people coming through Waterworld every year, and that tells us just how important this place is to our community. Investing in these spaces is about looking after a facility people rely on and making sure it keeps up with what our growing city needs.”
Whitehead says the team is grateful for the community’s patience.
“We know our community is eager to use these areas again and we’re proud to bring these areas up to modern standards that can serve the community for years to come.”
The recovery zone and Reformer Pilates Studio will be open from midday (12pm) Monday 20 April, along with new membership options.
