Hamilton City Council Mayor Paula Southgate was very excited to welcome new arrivals to the city.
“The theme of this year’s Welcoming Week is ‘Nau mai raa – we're glad you’re here’, and we’re indeed very very happy that they’re here, and that we can provide them with a safe, welcoming and supportive new home,” said Southgate.
“Hamilton thrives on its rich diversity, and all the activities our community has come together to put on in Welcoming Week, is a testament to their dedication to inclusivity and harmony. We are honoured to support these families, as they become an integral part of our vibrant city.”

Hamilton City Council, in collaboration with Te Haa o te Whenua o Kirikiriroa hosted the poowhiri followed by waananga (talk) and kai (food) today to welcome newcomers and mark the beginning of a new chapter as they settle into their new community.
The event provided an opportunity for the new families to experience the warmth and generosity of Hamiltonians – they could speak to some of our community groups and residents to learn about local services and resources to help ease their transition into their new home.
