Hamiltonians turned out in big numbers to vote on the last day of the Hamilton City Council election, with more than 5500 ordinary votes cast today.

Saturday’s large voter turnout is expected to change the final standings.

Progress results show Tim Macindoe as the frontrunner to become the city’s new Mayor.

If Mr Macindoe is confirmed as Mayor then the standings in the East Ward will have to be recalculated under the STV voting system.

The progress results include all votes received by the electoral office in Auckland by the close of voting at midday Saturday (11 October) but excludes special votes and votes received from Council offices and libraries on election day morning.
