Construction of the new traffic signals at the intersection of Wairere Drive and Karewa Place, commissioned by Foodstuffs North Island (FSNI), is now complete.
The signals will be switched on and the new road layout opened to the public from Wednesday 12 August 2026. The upgrade enables a right turn into Karewa Place from Wairere Drive (but not out of Karewa Place).
These changes were required under the resource consent for the new PAK’nSAVE in Te Rapa, determined by an independent commissioner. The change will enable road users travelling west to use the right-most lane to turn onto Karewa Place to gain access to the new Pak n Save supermarket once it is complete, rather than to continue down to the intersection of Te Rapa Road. Digital screens will be in place notifying of the new road layout.
Additional work to construct a roundabout at the intersection of Eagle Way and Karewa Place, which is also a requirement of the resource consent, is expected to begin in September 2026. More information will be provided by Foodstuffs closer to the time.
