A section of Hamilton’s River Rd will be under traffic control this Wednesday (20 February) to allow for a tree management project.
Hamilton City Council’s arborists will remove a group of large liquidambar trees on the grass verge between 919 and 923 River Rd.
The 6m-8m trees have previously dropped limbs and branches and there is concern there are continued risks to pedestrians, vehicles, neighbours and their properties if the trees are left in situ.
River Rd will also become a route for Waikato Regional Council’s recent bus fleet additions – double-decker buses.
The tree removal project will begin and 9am and run until 3pm. The footpath near through the site will be closed and the road will be under “stop/go” control while the arborists remove the trees.
Road users are urged to consider other routes through this part of the city as delays are likely while the job is done.
The trees will be replaced in winter when weather is more suitable – part of the Council’s usual approach to these projects.
