Road users are encouraged to use alternate routes where possible and we’ll do our best to keep any delays to a minimum. Traffic management may be in place to make sure road users, including people on bikes and pedestrians, can navigate these areas safely while work is underway. Works and dates are subject to change based on factors such as wet weather and staff availability.
Residents, pedestrians and people on bikes will continue to have access unless specified below.
Events
Mill Street, Seddon Road, Tristram Street, Abbotsford Street and Liverpool Street – road closures
A series of streets around FMG Stadium Waikato will be closed on Saturday 15 March for a Super Rugby game.
Roads closed from 2pm – 11pm:
- Abbotsford Street (from Willoughby Street to Tristram Street)
- Tristram Street (from Abbotsford Street to Mill Street).
Roads closed from 6pm – 11pm:
- Seddon Road (from Goldsmith Street to the Norton Road roundabout)
- Mill Street (from Norton Road to Willoughby Street)
- Liverpool Street (from Tristram Street to Vialou Street)
- Tristram Street (from Mill Street to Rostrevor Street).
Sillary Street, MacFarlane Street, Memorial Drive, River Road, Claudelands Road, Victoria Street – road and lane closures
A series of streets around the city will be closed on Sunday 16 March for the Hamilton Half Marathon.
Road closed from 7.30am – 9am:
- Sillary Street.
Northbound lanes closed from 7.30am – 9.30am:
- MacFarlane Street (from Sillary Street to Naylor Street)
- Memorial Drive (from Anzac Parade to River Road)
- River Road (from Memorial Drive to Tamihana Avenue).
Roads closed 7.30am – 11am:
- Claudelands Road (from Grey Street to Victoria Street)
- Southbound lane of Victoria Street (from Bryce Street to Knox Street).
Lake Domain Drive – road closure
Lake Domain Drive (from Killarney Road to Gilbass Avenue) will be closed from Tuesday 18 March to Saturday 22 March, from 5.30am – 10.30am for the Balloons over Waikato event.
Brooklyn Road, Heaphy Terrace, Stanley Street, Thames Street, Piako Road, O’Neill Street, Boundary Road– road closures
A series of streets around the city will be closed on Saturday 22 March for the Balloon over Waikato Nightglow.

- Heaphy Terrace (From Boundary Road to Brooklyn Road)
- Stanley Street (from Oakley Avenue to Heaphy Terrace)
- Thames Street (from Kitchener Street to Heaphy Terrace)
- Piako Road (from Kitchener Street to Heaphy Terrace)
- O’Neill Street (from George Street to Heaphy Terrace).
Roads closed from 6pm – 11pm (or earlier if carparking is full):
- Boundary Road (from Heaphy Terrace to Five Cross Roads)
- Boundary Road (from Victoria Street to Heaphy Terrace).
Upcoming works/delays
Te Ara Pekapeka Bridge – bridge closure
Te Ara Pekapeka Bridge (from Cobham Drive to Peacockes Road) will be closed on Wednesday 19 March, from 10am – 2pm for bridge abutment work.
If work is not complete, the closure may be extended to Thursday 20 March. A signed detour will be in place for traffic. Pedestrians and people on bikes will continue to have access.
Duke Street – lane closure
One direction of Duke Street (from Greenwood Street to Ellis Street) will be closed from Monday 17 March to Friday 21 March, for footpath and kerb renewal work.

One lane will be closed on Lynwood Place from Wednesday 19 March to Wednesday 16 April, for footpath and kerb renewal work.
Boundary Road – bridge closure
Boundary Road (from Victoria Street to Heaphy Terrace) will be closed on Sunday 23 March from 8pm to 6am on Monday 24 March, for bridge maintenance and surfacing.
Claudelands Road – road closure
Claudelands Road (from Grey Street to Victoria Street) will be closed from 8pm on Thursday 20 March to 6am on Friday 21 March, for gardening.
Ongoing works/delays
Pamela Place (cul de sac) – lane closure
The entire length of Pamela Place on one side remains closed until late-March, for footpath and kerb renewal work. Residents will continue to have access via the use of the open lane. Pedestrians and people on bikes should follow instructions from work crews.
Arthur Place – lane closure
The entire length of Arthur Place on one side remains closed until Monday 31 March from 7am – 6pm, for footpath and kerb renewal work. Residents will continue to have access via the use of the open lane. Pedestrians and people on bikes should follow instructions from work crews.
