Submissions

Submissions are made to other organisations on a wide range of issues that have the potential to affect Hamilton City Council and/or Hamilton. This is regarded as an important way to ensure the views of Hamilton City Council and Hamilton's residents are advocated for at a city, regional and national level.

There are two types of submissions made:

Council submissions
• Primarily focus on a range of draft documents (including Government Bills) that have the potential to impact on Hamilton City Council and/or Hamilton.

• Draft documents tend to be high-level and strategic in nature.

• Draft submissions are considered and then formally approved by the Council, a Council Committee, or Elected Members with delegated authority.

• Resource Management Act (RMA) submissions are made under the Chief Executive's delegated authority for RMA submissions but are still Council submissions.

Staff submissions
• Primarily focus on draft documents (including Government Bills) that are often detailed and very technical in nature and have the potential to impact on Hamilton City Council and/or Hamilton.

• Staff submissions are reflective of Hamilton City Council’s key strategies, plans and policies and are approved by the Chief Executive.

• Staff submissions are circulated to the Council’s Elected Members and Maangai Maaori in draft form to ensure their views can be included.

• All staff submissions are prefaced by the following statement: It should be noted that the following submission is from staff at Hamilton City Council and does not therefore necessarily represent the views of the Council itself.
